剧情简介

HE WAS MORE AFRAID OF LIVING THAN DYING... THE SYNOPSIS: An autobiographical and disturbingly intimate character-driven coming-of-age narrative which reads like a lyrical modern day seedy Charles Dickens novel (i.e. "Oliver Twist"), the lead role is TONY, a cute and precocious 22-year-old from small town Indiana, who's in the throws of crossing the choirboy-to-man threshold. GROUND ZERO: Rejection befalls Tony from the beginning. At just seven days old, three weeks before Christmas 1964, his biological mother abandoned him in a trash bin to die on a cold and snowy day. He was rescued and later adopted by an altruistic woman, without a husband, something unheard of in 1960s Indiana. CUT TO: Indiana 1987. Tony feels something "different" about himself, but can't quite put his finger on it. What he does know is that he must escape the rigidity of the Heartland and his blue-collar archaic surroundings (very "Roseanne" from the hit TV show) and decides to runaway. He set his sights on Hollywood. ARRIVING IN HOLLYWOOD: Upon his arrival in Hollywood, he begins to discover what he's been surreptitiously battling tooth-and-nail all his young life. The unfathomable revelation that he's homosexual slowly strips away the veneer of Tony's world and coming to grips with it is certain to be arduous. With all his naivete, he finds himself frequenting (and then later working at) The Copa, a perpetual soiree to Hollywood's affluent and all its wannabes and LA's answer to New York's illustrious and very decadent Studio 54, where his jaw-dropping confusion only intensifies. He feels he's a nefarious outcast in "the straight world" simultaneously feeling he doesn't fit into "the gay world" either. He fears he's losing his mind as he gravitates toward an ensemble cast of eclectic characters. To quote an indelible character in the story, who reflects on when he left the seminary to come out of the proverbial gay closet, "On the outside, I was celebrating, but on the inside, I was surrendering." That says it all where Tony's concerned. LIFE ON THE STREETS: The ubiquitous lost sole winds up alienated and homeless on the mean streets of Hollywood, doing whatever necessary to get shelter and to support his egregious cocaine and alcohol addictions. In a true tour de force, he survives several suicide attempts and a horrendous AIDS scare -- an odyssey spiraling into a life-altering cocaine overdose. LEFT TO HIS OWN DEVICES: Tony is left to his own devices and chronicled as being his own worst enemy. But does he have enough fortitude to put the kibosh on his amoral lifestyle before irreversible damage is done?
