The only DEFA film about displaced people - or "settlers" - from the former German eastern territories
Director Artur Pohl built a love story into the plot: The nephew of the mayor and the daughter of a Resettlers fall into each other, and a spiteful landlady who is also on the young man apart, and whose jealous husband bring the city to the brink of a conflagration. Which in turn can only help the resettlers will be deleted. Pohl was held for a beautiful visual metaphor: the swimming of the "strangers" by the river, which separates the two parties. The joint action will lead to the salvation of the city - and in a better future.
